BYFIELD — The search for a new superintendent for the Triton Regional School district is well underway, and the search committee expects to name the finalists for the position at the Feb. 24 School Committee meeting.
Dr. Sandra Halloran, who has served as the superintendent since 2005, announced in late 2009 that she would be retiring in October.
The 17-member superintendent search committee interviewed nine candidates during the week of Feb. 8 during executive sessions, with the goal of choosing three or four top candidates. These candidates will then be interviewed during open public sessions in March, in keeping with the time line established for hiring a new superintendent.
The search committee consists of five teachers, five parents, three town officials and four other district representatives. The teachers are: Margot Ryan from Newbury Elementary, Ginger Bard from Pine Grove, Jane Purinton from Salisbury, Kimberly Armstrong from the middle school and Timothy Coyle from the high school.
The five parent representatives are: Thomas Strickler from Newbury, Darlene Doucot from Rowley, Charles Flynn from Salisbury, Robin Williams from Newbury, representing the middle school, and Helen Bryant of Rowley, representing the high school. Audrey Keller from Newbury, Robert Snow from Rowley and Donald Beaulieu from Salisbury serve as the town officials on the committee.
District resident on the committee is Joanne McCulley of Rowley, while district administration representative is James Montanari, the principal of Salisbury Elementary School. Edward Suprin, who is an instruction assistant at the high school, is the non-instructional staff representative on the committee, and Molly Fargeorge is the student representative. She is a senior at the high school.
Mike Gilbert of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, who is the consultant managing the search, said, "We have a solid group of candidates ready to take the helm at Triton, and as soon as the executive session interviews are completed, we will have more details available on the candidates."
The selection of the three to five finalists will occur immediately after the last interview. Site visits will be arranged for the candidates, and final interview questions will be organized with the School Committee. The committee will then conduct the final interviews and make the final vote for superintendent on March 18. The new superintendent will begin on July 1.
