Second-graders collect most Box Top clippings

  • The class that has won for submitting the most Box Tops for Education clippings is Holly Reynold's second-graders, with 783 submissions. In second place was Aleta Budd's kindergarten class, and Morgan Boselli's grade 3 class was in third place for most box tops collected. Overall, Pine Grove submitted 12,000 box tops, earning $1,200 for PTO-sponsored school activities. Box tops can be saved over the summer and submitted in the fall.
  • Pine Grove sixth-graders will spend a day with their peers from Newbury and Salisbury Elementary schools during a meet-and-greet event on Monday. The students will spend the day enjoying games together, along with lunch and a special question-and-answer session with middle school Principal Jared Fulgoni. Rain date for this event is Wednesday.
  • John Collyer's fifth-graders will head out on the annual pen pal field trip on Tuesday with the seniors from the Rowley Council on Aging. As part of their writing workshop studies, the students write throughout the year to the seniors and culminate their letter-writing activities with a group trip. This year will see the group heading to the IMAX theater at Jordan's Furniture in Reading, where they will see the new Shrek movie and have lunch at Fuddruckers.
  • Pine Grove's Kid's Club program received a surprise package of goodies. Anna Jaques Hospital donated balls, jump ropes, Chinese jump ropes, sports timers and a booklet on rules of the games. Staples store also gave a pickup truck of office supplies — staplers, paper clips, a whole case of correction tape and lots of other things — to the school this week.
  • There will be a School Committee meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Triton High School. The committee will recognize the top 10 percent of the graduating class at this meeting.
  • The annual celebration of learning day will take place on Thursday. Parents and family members are invited throughout the day to visit their children's classroom or the all-purpose room to view projects that they have worked on throughout the year.
  • The end-of-year PTO dinner will be held on Thursday at the new Rowley Roadside Grill & Pub at 300 Newburyport Turnpike at Yankee Village Plaza. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and all are invited to attend.
  • Friday, June 11, is an early release day at 11:40 a.m. to allow for teachers to make the final decisions for class assignments for the 2010/11 school year.
