To the editor:
It was a sunny and warm but very windy Friday afternoon when a few volunteers were able to start early in the morning weeding, sweeping and raking up the playground in preparation for a delivery of new playground mulch from Wolf Hill, which, after a successful fundraiser of selling Little Caesar's pizza kits to the Pine Grove families and a generous price from Wolf Hill, the Pine Grove PTO was able to fund.
By noon, the playground was filled with many volunteers, including parents, students, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, who helped rake the hills, sweep the pavement and clean up the trash around the playground area. The Girl Scouts worked hard repainting the map and four square games too and it looks great! The bark mulch delivery took much longer than expected, so most of the volunteers finished off the yard work and headed home for their weekend, while others waited in anticipation for the delivery.
By 4:30, with great customer service from Wolf Hill, the first truck arrived. There were cheers and smiles all around. Volunteers kept coming from every direction to help spread the mulch. It was heart-warming to see those who stuck around, those who came back, and those who just showed up to help. It was an amazing amount of work, which we couldn't have done with out all of our awesome volunteers!
When the children arrived on the Monday for school, it was a cloudy and drizzly day, but everyone was able to enjoy their outdoor recess and absolutely loved and appreciated the playground mulch. Thank you to everyone who purchased and sold the pizza kits and thank you to those who made general donations to our fundraiser.
Thank you to everyone who was able to help us with our playground clean-up day! Thank you to our volunteers: Margot Lacey, Neil Butler, Madison and Stone Butler, Pam and Shawn Killeen, the Killeen kids, Chrissy Laundenslager, Anna McGrath, the Stedfast family, Theresa Karamitsios, Jen Macdonald's Cub Scout den and parents, Wendy Roach's Girl Scout troop, Molly Gagnon, Allison Kelly, Anne Ganzumuller, Ben, Chatham and Nicole Campbell, Jill Votano-Sharpe and family, and I know I am forgetting one or two of you who were there to help, so thank you. Sorry if I have missed someone. Your help was truly appreciated.
Thank you to Deb Rabinovitz and Chris Pringle for their use of the Kubota and Stu Dalzell for getting it over to us. Thank you, Ron Jenkins, for stopping over before your big playground day to help us out. It was a huge help! Thank you to Wolf Hill for their great customer service. We are very grateful to have a safe and fun playground for all to use.
