2010 Summer Reading for Triton Elementary Schools

E-mail Print PDF

Your children have been working hard to become good readers. Summer is the perfect time to maintain and expand reading skills. It is important that you encourage your child to read during the summer. Not only will it help instill a lifelong love of reading, it will also maintain the reading skills and strategies your child has worked to achieve this year.

Your public library card can be used in all area libraries. Visit your local library to join in summer activities. You may also order books online from any library in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium and the books can be picked up and delivered to your local library. To learn more, visit www.mvlc.org

5 great ways to encourage your child to read:

  • Make the Time - Establish quiet reading time after lunch or in the morning as a part of your child’s summer routine.
  • Turn off the TV - Limit the amount of time in front of the television and playing video games.
  • Reward Reading - It’s okay to use incentives. Start a sticker chart and/or let your child earn something special.
  • Cook and Read - As you prepare a meal together, have your child read the recipe with you.
  • Read Magazines - Consider subscribing to children’s magazines (such as Boy’s Life, BMX Plus, Discovery Girls, National Geographic for Kids, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Your Big Back Yard, and Zoobooks

Massachusetts Book Award Program: Students entering grades five and six are encouraged to read some of the nominated books. Click here to read the MCBA book list for 2010-2011!
